Performance Portal

Periodic reporting on road safety performance should form part of an organisation's overall approach to health and safety performance reporting, both to internal stakeholders (for example via company Intranets) and externally via the Internet.

Enhanced occupational health and safety reporting by companies imposes certain costs but there are also many potential benefits. These can include:

  • provision of information to shareholders, institutional investors, insurers, trades unions, the media etc on the organisation's approach to work related road safety performance as a key business performance objective;
  • facilitation of performance 'benchmarking', for example, within a sector or a group of companies;
  • demonstration of openness and transparency, both internally and externally;
  • celebration of achievement, helping to demonstrate and reinforce the organisation's H&S values and culture;
  • augmenting corporate information on OS&H in support of other business processes such as tendering, entry to awards schemes and so on; and
  • publicising a positive OS&H profile can help to help secure competitive advantage in the marketplace.

The Health and Safety Commission have published guidance on health and safety performance reporting and on health and safety performance for institutional investors see 'Health and Safety Information for Institutional Investors.
